Weekly Market Comment – July 8th 2019
It was a quiet week in markets as is normally the case when the US celebrates its Independence Day (US markets were closed on Thursday and trading finished early on Wednesday). The major indexes ended mixed after Friday saw a relatively modest pull back, this came after new highs were set earlier in the week. The G-20 summit boosted markets early in the week as investors welcomed progress on the US/Chinese trade dispute. Friday saw markets pullback as the stronger than expected June payroll report from the Labor Department dampened expectations of a US rate cut in July.
